The 2021 South African Local Government Elections will be held on 1 November 2021. When you see a political advert on social media, it’s often difficult to know for sure if it’s a legitimate advert. To help you know what’s real and what’s rubbish, political parties have been asked to upload their official adverts to this website. You can search through the repository to check if the advert you’ve online seen is real or not.

You can also search through the adverts to see the messages and campaigns of the political parties.

If you have any complaints about political adverts, these should be directed to the IEC. Click here to go to the IEC website.

Access to information in elections in Africa

The Political Party Advert Repository (Padre) is a South African first, and aims to ensure and increase access to information in elections in South Africa, in line with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights' Guidelines On Access To Information And Elections In Africa.

Padre is an initiative of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) supported by Media Monitoring Africa (MMA), aimed at supporting free and fair elections by ensuring access to information during the elections period.

You can read more about the initiative and about the IEC and the MMA on the about page.
